Leaders of Tomorrow Show Top-Rate Communication Skills The ISDA Competition is the premier student debating competition for independent schools in Sydney and brings schools, students, teachers, supporters, coaches and adjudicators together for seven hotly contested rounds of debating on Friday evenings. Both the ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà Junior and Senior Teams were represented in the Grand Final. The Junior Team took on St Ignatius (Riverview) with the affirmative view for “we should only have participation awards in primary school”, whilst the Senior Team debated against Abbotsleigh (Wahroonga) with the negative for “whether there should be a political party formed for aboriginal citizens”. The debates included speeches of 8 minutes in length and rebuttals. After deliberation from the Adjudicators, both ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà teams were awarded a unanimous decision. ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà Principal, Ms Lisa Moloney commented, “The ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà debaters worked very hard through the season and applied themselves every week. “Debating is a key skill that prepares our girls to communicate clearly, argue convincingly and challenge themselves to build a case on a topic without earlier preparation. “The performance of both winning teams, as well as those who participated strongly week-in, week-out, underscores ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍÃ’s ongoing strength in debating. We are immensely proud of all the girls who debated in this competition.” Thirty-two schools competed with eight different teams in year divisions. Seven ÌÇÐÄlogoÃ×·ÆÍà teams progressed to the finals, with six teams through to the quarters and three to the semi-finals. - 11 July 2019
